Using the calendar, day to day
The calendar gives you three answers about today: where your work meets the least resistance, when to speak and act, and when to hold. Here is how to apply it without turning it into a project.
Every morning, do three things:
- Check the day’s favorable direction and hour windows.
- Move the conversations and decisions that matter most into the favorable windows.
- Put admin, errands, and rest into the unfavorable ones — deliberately.
That is the whole practice. You are not adding tasks; you are placing the tasks you already have.
Questions people ask
Which tasks deserve a favorable window?
The ones where resistance costs you: negotiations, pitches, difficult conversations, big decisions, first impressions. Routine work — email triage, filing, errands — does not need a window. Save your best hours for what actually needs them.
What if I can’t move to the favorable direction?
Adjust timing instead of location: hold the conversation for a favorable hour. If neither the direction nor the hour is workable, treat the task as a hold — do the quiet preparation now, and act when the window turns. Preparation placed early is still alignment.
When is holding the right move?
When the hour is unfavorable, the aligned action is restraint: maintenance, planning, admin, recovery. Conserving is not doing nothing — it is choosing the action the field supports. The energy you keep now is the energy you spend later, when it counts.
How is this different from a normal calendar?
A normal calendar schedules by availability: when you and others are free. The Qi calendar schedules by momentum: when your effort meets the least resistance. Both tell you when to act; this one also tells you when not to.
How long does it take each day?
Under five minutes in the morning. If it takes longer, you are over-reading it. The calendar is a placement tool, not a study.
