You know the feeling of pushing on a task at the wrong hour — it takes three times the effort and still comes out wrong. This page is about the other half of timing: knowing when the aligned move is to hold. The Daily Qi Calendar marks favorable, neutral, and unfavorable windows, and the practice is to spend each kind of window on the action it supports — including, deliberately, doing less.

The problem, plainly

Most productivity advice is symmetrical: more effort, better results, always. It ignores that the field is not neutral. Some hours carry momentum; others actively resist. Acting in a resisting hour is not harder work — it is wasted work that burns the energy you will need when the momentum returns.

The three windows

  • Strategic strike windows — favorable alignment. This is where decisions, launches, and outreach go.
  • Consolidation windows — neutral. Internal organization, maintenance, refactoring, preparation. The work still gets done; it just does not need momentum.
  • Restraint windows — unfavorable. Hold position, avoid conflict, rest. The aligned action is to conserve.

How to run it

  1. Morning: note which kind of window each block of the day is. Five minutes.
  2. Move what can move: the critical decision or outreach into a strike window.
  3. Fill neutral windows with the maintenance load instead of pretending they are empty.
  4. When an unfavorable window arrives, stop adding tasks. Do the quiet version: plan, organize, recover — or genuinely rest. Conserving is a choice, not a failure.

Where it fails, so you don’t

  • Holding becomes procrastination. The distinction is simple: holding is preparation-plus-rest on a deliberate schedule; procrastination is avoidance with no plan. If you have not named when you will act, you are procrastinating.
  • Treating the windows as fixed fate. The calendar marks what the field supports; you still choose. A strike window with no preparation is wasted; a restraint window with a planned recovery is not.
  • Never using the strike windows. The point is not to conserve forever — it is to spend the momentum when it arrives. If you keep postponing into “someday,” the calendar is not the problem.

The short version

Match the action to the window: strike when favorable, consolidate when neutral, hold and recover when unfavorable. Mastery of restraint is what keeps your energy for the moments that matter — but only if you actually act when they arrive.
